Murrurundi Troop Beersheba Day 2008

Four of the Troop with two horses spent an enjoyable and instructive weekend with The Murrurundi Troop of the 12th Light Horse Regiment Murrurundi and 12th Quirindi at Murrurundi on the New England highway.

On Saturday 25th Oct we participated in their Commemorative Service and Parade to mark the 91st anniversary of the battle of Beersheba and 105 Years of Australian Light Horse.

The parade was addressed by General Glenny Rtd. who reviewed troops made up of 3 sections of mounted light horse, a captured German Field Artillery gun with limber, drawn by a WW2 jeep and bearing 8 unmounted troopers. Also present was a catafalque party made up of 5 infantry. A pipe band from Newcastle and school children from local schools made up the balance of the parade.

Among the large audience seated in the Stand and chairs provided, were several who laid wreaths on the cross erected for the occasion

Murrurundi Troop Beersheba Day Carnival 26/10/08

On Saturday evening we joined members of the Murrurundi Troop and their many supporters for a BBQ at the Rosedale Complex where we were camped.

Sunday saw the Light Horse Carnival of events between members of the 3 troops.

1. Skill at Arms 2. Beersheba Charge 3. Dummy Thrust 4. Section Hurdle 5. Obstacle Race 6 Tent Pegging 7. Rescue Race 8. Relay Race.

The more experienced riders of Murrurundi and Quirindi were able to coach members of the 6th and others in the skills required to participate in the events. By the end of a tiring day of riding, many Troopers were enthusiastic about their improvement and acquisition of new skills.
