What is a Light Horse Troop?
- The Troop is a voluntary group of horse riders and non riders who are keen to foster a continued interest in Australia's military history, especially the Australian Light Horse's achievements and traditions during WW1. Light Horse re-enactment troops celebrate the spirit of those young men, mostly from the bush, boys who could ride and shoot and volunteered to serve their country often out of a sense of adventure. We celebrate the values forged during the Boer War, Gallipoli and the War in Palestine, values of , mateship, endurance and sacrifice.
- The Light Horse were instrumental in the allies’ success in the Middle East that gave rise to the formation of Israel and the Arab states by ending the 400 year occupation of that area by the Ottoman Empire.
How does the Troop foster interest in the Light Horse?
- The Troop takes part in public displays, street parades, school educational displays, community festivals, ANZAC Day ceremonies, agricultural shows and other ceremonial activities throughout the Sydney region.
- Troop members will support other Troops in their parades & displays when invited to do so.
- It creates personal pride in wearing the uniform of the Light Horse by involvement in community events & re-enactment rides.
- We train to reach a high standard in the horsemanship on parade, in musical rides and the “Skill at Arms” of the Australian Light Horse.
- We promote awareness and pride in the great personal sacrifices made on the battlefield by our forefathers, which enable us to enjoy the freedom we have today.
Who can join a Light Horse Troop?
- Any one over the age of 16 with an interest in the Australian Light Horse.
